eJPT
eJPT stands for Junior Penetration Tester. This certification is an excellent starting point for anyone aspiring to become a Penetration Tester. I recently earned this certification and would like to share my experience.
Course Overview
This exam is for entry-level individuals in cybersecurity with no experience in this domain. The learning path contains 4 sections: Assessment Methodologies, Host and Network Auditing, Host and Network Penetration Testing, and Web Application Penetration Testing. There are 12 courses, 239 videos, 164 quizzes, and 121 labs.
Experience
I subscribed in January 2024. Access to the learning path was available until April 2024. I honestly didn’t finish the learning path because I was preparing for another course (CCNAv7: Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials) at the same time, which I needed for my practical project for my Bachelor’s Degree Thesis. In my opinion, you must have a strong foundation in networking, not only for this exam but for future projects in this field. I went through the course, did all the labs, and took notes, except for the Web Application Penetration Testing section, because my subscription was ending. However, I was confident in this topic because I am a CTF player and have participated in previous competitions. I also have a background on the TryHackMe platform. I trained on this platform for a year before taking the eJPT exam. It wasn’t specifically for this exam, but it was my starting point in this field, and it really helped me.
I took the exam on a Saturday morning and completed all the questions by the evening on the same day, but I took breaks for eating, so the actual working time was 8 hours. I passed with 85% because I didn’t pay enough attention to the pivoting point. I didn’t enumerate all the services on a host within the internal network, which was a mistake, but I will keep this in mind for the future.
Overall, I found this exam to be relatively easy, but I gained a lot of knowledge from the experience. If you complete all the labs and watch all the videos from the course, you should have no problems. Additionally, I used all the TryHackMe materials that I found helpful in the process of preparing for this exam.
